We’re very happy here at Corrwg Productions: boat, the short film written and directed by Daniel McGowan, has been nominated for the inaugural Brian Hibbard Award for Best Welsh Short at this year’s Cardiff Independent Festival.
The film, shot entirely on location in Monmouthshire, is up against 4 other great Welsh shorts. The prize is named in honour of the brilliant Welsh actor and singer from the Flying Pickets, who sadly passed away in 2012, and will be presented by his widow Caroline Bunce on 19th April at the festival’s awards ceremony.
Dan said ‘It is a huge honour – Brian was extraordinary and a massively talented man. To be in the running for the prize, at boat’s first festival and in my home town – it’s very exciting. And the festival itself is terrific. It’s a very gratifying feeling.’
Cardiff Independent Film Festival attracts submissions from all over the world, and a sign of its prestige lies in the fact that John Boorman, the legendary director of Deliverance and Hope and Glory, will present the UK premiere of his latest film there.
The festival is also BAFTA Cymru accredited, which means that boat is also eligible for the Welsh BAFTAs next year (2016). Make sure you cast your votes!
